desert living

My latest work adventure sent me to the desert southwest - Tucson, AZ to be precise. My organization has an annual board meeting and training conference for all our state coordinators. It rotates around to a different state every year, and luckily on my first year, it took place in the gorgeous sunshine! Our hotel had sort of an open-air layout, so I even got to soak up a few rays while going from meeting to meeting. There were about 60 attendees at the conference, and there were just 4 of us from my office in charge of the whole event. It was pretty busy! But it was a great time of meeting people who I'll normally only interact with by email and phone. Also, a lot of our international partners came, and it was a generally inspiring time to hear stories about the impacts of exchange programs. It made me feel like I'm making the world a better place, one family at a time :)

After 10 days of event planning, presenting, sightseeing-coordinating, eating hotel food, and generally running around, I was ready to come home. But before that, my boss took us on a desert Jeep tour. It was so cool! We went to a private ranch and rode in an open Jeep on rugged, cacti-lined trails. It was warm and gorgeous.

Here are a few photos from the trip.
